‘Border fencing taken on serious note after BJP came to power’
Shillong, Jan 5: The state BJP has underlined speedy completion of border fencing along Indo-Bangla border while claiming that the issue was given its due importance only after the party came to power at the Centre.
“We are very concerned about our borders with Bangladesh and we hope speedy completion of the border fencing,” BJP state general secretary Wankitbok Pohshna told reporters on Monday.
Claiming the Central government’s priority accorded to the issue, he said, “It is only after the BJP took over the government at the Centre that the border fencing is being taken on a serious note.”
The state BJP leader further noted progress on infrastructure in border areas and said, “If you look at the infrastructure development in border areas, it has been strengthened after the BJP government took over. Work is going on and we expect border fencing will be completed with the passage of time.”
Pohshna also condemned the recent social media threats emanating from Bangladesh, calling them “unacceptable” and emphasizing that the party remains vigilant.
Terming “laughable” the notion of threat to the “seven sisters”, he said, “We are in a country which provides firm security and North‑East is an integral part of India, so there will be no one who can change that.”
He highlighted the seriousness of the volatile situation in Bangladesh, saying, “The situation in Bangladesh is volatile as there is no government. I am sure the Central government is taking note of all these.”
