CM Khemchand Singh urges Haj pilgrims to offer prayers for peace in Manipur

Imphal, Apr 30: Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh on Thursday urged Haj pilgrims from the state to offer prayers for peace and harmony in the northeastern state.

A total of 379 people have been selected this year by the Manipur State Haj Committee for the annual pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

Singh, while seeing off the Haj pilgrims at the Imphal airport, said, “I pray to the Almighty that they reach the destination safe and sound. I urge the pilgrims to offer prayers to establish a peaceful Manipur.”

A total of 172 pilgrims left for Kolkata on Wednesday, while 207 devotees departed on Thursday, for their onward journey to Saudi Arabia.

Singh had on Wednesday said that since assuming office in February, he has been engaging with MLAs, officials and members of different communities to work collectively for the restoration of peace in the state.

The CM said peace remains the foremost prerequisite for development, urging people to remain united in achieving lasting harmony. (PTI)
