Sangma says death of veteran Garo writer an ‘irreparable loss’ to A’chik community
Shillong, Sept 15: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday mourned the passing of Pa Llewellyn R Marak and conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
Sangma, in a social media post, called the veteran Garo writer “a cultural guardian and a true Matgrik among Garo writers”.
“An award-winning senior citizen honoured by the State and Central governments, he authored more than 20 books on Garo culture and traditions, including Balpakram and Dikki & Bandi. Many of his priceless manuscripts remain unpublished,” the chief minister said.
The chief minister also recalled his meeting with the late writer at the latter’s residence on December 23, 2025, saying it was a privilege to have visited him. He recalled the writer’s humility and deep passion for A’chik culture.
“His demise is an irreparable loss to the entire A’chik community,” the chief minister said.
