‘Dynasty first, Constitution last’, Sonowal in BJP’s ‘Samvidhan Gaurav Abhiyaan’

Guwahati, Jan 25: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched a scathing attack on the Congress party during the BJP’s ‘Samvidhan Gaurav Abhiyaan’, accusing it of repeatedly undermining constitutional values.

Paying tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Sonowal highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in strengthening democracy and uplifting backward communities.

Sonowal said, “India owes its unity and democratic strength to the Constitution framed by Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. For 75 years, it has safeguarded justice, equality, liberty, and fraternity across our diverse nation.”

Criticizing the Congress for prioritizing dynasty over democracy, Sonowal referenced the 1975 Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi, which he described as the most blatant assault on fundamental rights. “For Congress, family comes first, and the Constitution comes last,” he said.

Sonowal praised leaders like Jayaprakash Narayan, Morarji Desai, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and L.K. Advani for restoring democracy post-emergency. He emphasized the BJP’s commitment to ethical governance, recalling how Vajpayee refused to compromise principles for power in 1996, despite having the option to prolong his 13-day government through unethical means.

Sonowal lauded PM Modi’s policies for the holistic development of backward communities, stating that under his leadership, India has witnessed unprecedented social justice reforms. He cited examples of Ram Nath Kovind and Droupadi Murmu assuming India’s highest constitutional office as Presidents of India, reinforcing BJP’s commitment to empowerment and inclusivity.

Taking another dig at Congress, Sonowal remarked, “Whenever Congress is in power, it disregards constitutional values for its self-serving interests. However, the people of India have consistently rejected their corruption and dynasty politics in successive elections.”

Highlighting India’s global ascent, Sonowal added, “Under PM Modi ji’s visionary leadership since 2014, India has emerged as a globally respected democracy. In just a decade, the world now sees India as a powerful and honourable nation.”

The event saw participation from several prominent leaders, including Khumtai MLA Chakradhar Gogoi, Dibrugarh BJP President Dulal Bora, Assam Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Rituparna Baruah, Dibrugarh Development Authority Chairman Asim Hazarika, Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Tonkeswar Sonowal, and Housing Board Vice Chairman Subhash Dutta.
