Excise revenue: Govt defers rollout of QR code system

Shillong, Aug 28: The state government has extended the deadline for rolling out the QR code-based tracking system to prevent excise revenue leakage, minister Kyrmen Shylla said on Thursday.

Although the initial deadline was set for August, it was extended due to requests from the vendors and the need for the chief minister’s presence at the launch ceremony, the excise minister said.

He expressed the hope to launch the QR code tracking system before commencement of the upcoming autumn session of the assembly.

Asked, Shylla informed that Excise department is working hard to exceed the previous year’s revenue collection.

Although he did not have the exact numbers with him, the minister assured that the department is striving to achieve its objective.
