Garo Hills administration reviews security scenario post attack

Tura, Jan 10: West Garo Hills district administration held a late night emergency meeting to review the law and order situation in the wake of Friday’s incident in which one member of the ACHIK organization lost his life following a clash in the Rajabala area.

The emergency meeting took place at the office of the Superintendent of Police, West Garo Hills, and was attended by Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Agarwal, Superintendent of Police Abraham T Sangma, Additional Superintendent of Police, Circle Inspector, the concerned Officer-in-Charge; and representatives of the ACHIK organisation whose member was killed in the incident.

During the meeting, a detailed review of the incident was undertaken, including assessment of the prevailing law-and-order situation, status of the police investigation, and immediate administrative and security measures required to maintain peace and public order in the district. The district administration and police authorities reaffirmed their commitment to a thorough, impartial, and time-bound investigation, and to ensuring that all perpetrators involved are identified and brought to justice in accordance with law.

From their side, members of the ACHIK organisation placed their concerns and observations before the authorities, which were duly noted. The administration assured that necessary preventive, protective, and confidence-building measures are being put in place to avoid any escalation of tension and to safeguard communal harmony.

The District Administration and Police have jointly appealed to the general public to remain calm, cooperate with law-enforcement agencies, and refrain from circulating unverified or provocative information through social media or other platforms, as such actions may adversely affect peace and public order.
