Governor felicitates top rank holders in Board exams

Shillong, May 17: Governor CH Vijayashankar on Friday felicitated five top rank holders of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations.

The governor handed over certificates and gifts to the rank holders – Saptarshi Bhattacharjee – 1st Position, HSSLC (Science), Laban Bengali Boys’ HSS; Idawanplishisha Swer – 1st Position, HSSLC (Arts), St. Edmund’s HSS; Disha Chokoni – 1st Position, HSSLC (Commerce), St. Anthony’s HSS; Leisha Agarwal – 1st Position, SSLC, St. Margaret’s HSS; and Avila Kathrene P Lyngdoh – 1st Position, SSLC, North Liberty HSS, Jowai.

The Governor congratulated the toppers and meritorious students for their exceptional performance and encouraged them to continue their pursuit of excellence. “Many of you will go on to become doctors, engineers, scholars, and professionals who will make Meghalaya and the nation proud,” he said. He made special mention of students from tribal and remote areas who overcame several challenges to emerge victorious, describing their success as truly inspirational.

The governor also appreciated the sustained efforts of Meghalaya Board of Secondary Education (MBoSE) in maintaining integrity and quality in the conduct of examinations.

He encouraged the Board and academic institutions to align more closely with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasising holistic learning, skill development, and local context in curriculum delivery, ensuring that no child is left behind.

In his address, MBoSE chairman CP Marak reiterated the Board’s commitment to transparency, innovation, and reforms in alignment with NEP 2020.

Some students delivered short speeches reflecting their journey, aspirations, and gratitude toward their schools, families, and the education department.

Offering the vote of thanks, MBoSE director M Marbaniang stressed the importance of teacher training, inclusive education, and investing in digital infrastructure, especially in underserved areas.

The event also marked the celebration of the foundation day of Sikkim.
