Shillong, June 9: The state government has decided to terminate the contract of SAI Computer Ltd, which was entrusted to manage power supply in Mawsynram, Ranikor and Mawphlang constituencies, according to the National People’s Party (NPP).
Based on public complaints against the company’s service, NPP leaders from the region led by former Mawsynram MLA HM Shangpliang had been demanding for termination of the contract, the NPP said on Tuesday.
The NPP leaders from the three constituencies have met Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma twice this month to demand for an immediate exit of the company.
“Last night our group met the Chief Minister again and he agreed to terminate the contract of SAI. We believe in the next few days an order is likely to be issued for SAI to exit from our areas,” Shangpliang told reporters.
Mawsynram MDC Alvin Sawkmie, who accompanied the delegation, said the Chief Minister’s assurance came after the government took note of public grievances.
He urged residents of Mawsynram, Mawphlang and Ranikor blocks to remain patient until the formal order is issued.
“I request the public to be patient. In the next few days, as I have explained, it will be terminated. Please be patient. We are confident that the Government has taken it seriously after they heard the grievances of the people,” Sawkmie said.
According to the NPP leaders, the termination process has begun and an official order directing SAI Computer Ltd to withdraw from the three blocks is expected soon.
