Shillong, April 21: With bidders showing little interest in the new Polo market complex, the state government is considering lowering the rate in the next tender to be floated soon.
“We advertised three-four times, but nobody is interested… So now we have to refloat the tender again,” Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar told reporters on Tuesday.
Indicating government rate could have posed a hurdle, he said, “It seems the rate is a little bit high… now we may go down a little bit so that interested parties come forward.”
The market complex, looked after by Shillong Municipal Board, was inaugurated last year but it is yet to be operationalised due to lack of interest in the bidding process.
“We haven’t started operationalising it as we are waiting for the party to come while we are doing the tendering system. We are thinking maybe we will go down a little bit on the rate,” Dhar added.
Assuring transparency in the bidding process, he said, “The highest bidder will get. It is a very transparent system.”
He said the government might also take a different approach, if the bidding process fails to attract anyone even after offering lower rate.
On the recently inaugurated parking lot adjacent to the additional secretariat building, Dhar said, “We are yet to decide on this on how to operate. It will be done by the department only.”
