Shillong, July 13: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has asserted that the state government has remained consistent in its stand on uranium mining, reiterating the government’s opposition to such mining in Meghalaya.
“I have repeated again and again that our government has made it very clear that we have said no to uranium mining in our state,” Sangma said on Monday.
The Chief Minister’s reply to a media query comes amid continued opposition from civil society groups and local organisations to any move to allow uranium mining in the state.
The government has maintained that no proposal for uranium mining will be cleared in Meghalaya.
