Shillong, Dec 17: The Estimates Committee of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has urged various government departments to speed up their ongoing projects and complete them within the scheduled time.
The committee led by Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem as chairman, reviewed performance and progress of various ongoing projects of the departments of Education, Health, Public Health Engineering (PHE), and Community & Rural Development (C&RD) recently.
Reviewing progress of three Block Institutes of Teacher Education (BITE) and residential schools, the committee urged the Education department to expedite completion and operational readiness of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) in Ri-Bhoi and East Garo Hills by 2025.
On PHE department, the committee emphasised the need for uninterrupted implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in border areas and directed the department to expedite efforts and submit a detailed status report.
While assessing the progress of new Maternal and Child Health (MCH) hospitals in Nongstoin and Umsning, the committee called for targeting their operational readiness by 2025.
It also urged the Health department to fast-track upgrading of facilities in civil hospitals, primary health centres (PHCs), and community health centres (CHCs).
The committee also reviewed construction of new Block Development Officer (BDO) offices under C&RD department, noting a completion rate of 70-80%. It urged the department to ensure timely project completion to enhance service delivery in C&RD blocks.
The committee chairman Mayralborn Syiem expressed satisfaction with the overall progress of the projects, stated an official release.
“The committee looks forward to seeing the discussions held today with the various departments implemented on the ground in both letter and spirit,” he said.
The review meeting was also attended by committee members Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar (Mawkyrwat MLA), Adelbert Nongrum (North Shillong MLA), Remington Gabil Momin (Rambrai-Jyrngam MLA), Wailadmiki Shylla (Jowai MLA), and Miani D Shira (Ampati MLA), along with officials from the Meghalaya Assembly Secretariat and the respective departments.
