HSPDP urges govt to upgrade WKH library

Shillong, Dec 17: The Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) Youth Wing, West Khasi Hills District, has submitted a memorandum to the Minister in-charge Arts and Culture Sanbor Shullai requesting the upgrade of the District Library at Nongstoin into a District Multi-Convention Centre.

The memorandum highlights the need for a modern multipurpose convention and community centre to cater to the diverse needs of the people of West Khasi Hills.

“The District Library building, though established with noble intent, has in recent years seen minimal utilization due to limited facilities and infrastructural constraints,” the memorandum states.

The proposed upgrade aims to transform the library into a hub for promoting arts, culture, youth engagement, education, and social development in the district. It will benefit students, artists, youth organisations, and the general public, serving as a study room for unemployed youth preparing for various exams.

“We earnestly request your kind intervention and necessary action to upgrade the present District Library into a District Multi-Convention Centre with modern facilities,” the HSPDP Youth Wing said in the memorandum.

The organisation has requested the Minister to allocate necessary funds and technical support from the Department of Arts and Culture and include the project in the State’s upcoming cultural and infrastructure development plan for 2025-26.

“We remain hopeful that under your able leadership, this long-felt aspiration of the people of West Khasi Hills will be given due consideration,” the memorandum concludes.
