Baghmara, Jan 29: The ongoing Tyisam Festival at Baghmara reached its peak on the second and final day with an array of events that began with an indigenous cooking contest that showcased some of the most ethnic cuisine of the Garos, from open cooking using locally available herbs and spices to cooking in bamboo of meat and rice- a much sought after delicacy.
Another highlight of the day was the beauty contest for Mr and Miss Tyisam that were bagged by two young college students from the region who enthralled the judges and the audience with their answers during the question and answer session.
The grand finale was the electrifying performance by two of Garo Hills most famous musical bands- Sammy and the Band from Tura and rock legends RipRap. The crowds were on their feet as Riprap vocalist Browny took to the stage- and he didn’t disappoint, belting out one hit number after another much to the excitement of the crowds.
For many visitors, this was one of the biggest Tyisam festivals given the sheer number of people coming to the venue and the large number of stalls that did brisk business on both days of the festival.
