Shillong, Sep 7: Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court Indra Prasanna Mukerji was given farewell after he retired from service on September 5.
The ‘Farewell Full Court Reference’ to mark the occasion was attended by the advocate general, additional advocate generals, senior advocates, judicial officers, government officials, members of the Bar Associations, among others.
The speakers recalled the contributions of Justice IP Mukerji during his tenure in Meghalaya High Court.
He handled and passed far reaching orders in several high-profile cases such as hawkers’ & street vendors’ case, crematorium for Khasi and Jaintia Hindu communities, menace of stray dogs, environmental concerns with regard to construction of Shillong-Dawki highway, central bonded warehouse, etc.
Justice Mukerji also played a major role in the development of judicial infrastructure in the state.
Meanwhile, Justice HS Thangkhiew has been assigned to perform the duties of Chief Justice till appointment of the next Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court.
