Kaziranga to be opened for visitors from Oct 1

Guwahati Sep 8: Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) will reopen for tourists starting October 1, as per an official statement released by the park authorities on Sunday. The park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its population of the one-horned rhinoceros, typically closes during the monsoon season due to flooding and adverse weather conditions.

“This is despite the challenges of overcoming one of the severest floods where animal mortality was the minimum,” KNPTR field director Sonali Ghosh said.

“This tourism season we focus on enhanced visitor experience and safety. Need everyone’s support and cooperation,” Ghosh said.

The park experienced a significant upsurge in tourist footfall in the last fiscal. The year has recorded the highest number of visitors to the Park since its inception.

Of the total 3,27,493 tourists who visited the park throughout the year, 3,13,574 are Indian tourists and 13,919 are foreign tourists.

The park earned a total of Rs 8.81 crore from tourists throughout the year.

Of the three forest divisions of the national park, East Assam Wildlife Division recorded 3,20,961 tourists compared to 3,10,458 tourists in 2022-23.

Nagaon Wildlife Division recorded 3,484 tourists in 2023-24 compared to 2,610 tourists in 2022-23 while Biswanath Wildlife Division recorded 3.048 tourists compared to 1,728 in 2022-233 fiscal.
