‘Lack of internet’ prompts shifting of labour office

Shillong, Mar 7: The Block Labour Office (BLO), Laskein in West Jaintia Hills district is currently functioning from the District Labour Office at Jowai, said minister in-charge Labour, Shakliar Warjri, while replying to a question in the state assembly on Friday.

Stating that the reason for shifting BLO Laskein was due to lack of internet connectivity, he assured that the office will be shifted back to Laskein very soon.

However, UDP legislator from Mowkaiaw Nujorki Sungh, who raised the query, wondered if the reason could be reluctance of the staff to work in rural areas.

He also underlined importance of strengthening such offices so that labourers do not have to travel to district headquarters for registration.

To this, Warjri said the department is coming up with proposal to set up more BLOs in the state.
