Mumbai, Jul 11: Hollywood star Matt Damon on Saturday said he hopes to collaborate with acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur some day, recalling how he missed the opportunity to work with him more than two decades ago on “The Four Feathers”.
Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai for the India premiere of Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey”, Damon said collaborating with Kapur was something he had looked forward to for years.
“Well, the filmmaker starting out that everyone wanted to collaborate with was Shekhar Kapur. And I remember when I couldn’t do ‘The Four Feathers’ for some reason, and I was really upset with him about that because I think I was signed up for a ‘Bourne’ movie.
“So I guess he’s always been on my list, and so I’d like to have another go. That’s like a 20-year-old little debt I’ve been carrying around in my pocket,” the actor said.
Released in 2002, “The Four Feathers” was Kapur’s second Hollywood directorial after the Oscar-nominated “Elizabeth” (1998), starring Cate Blanchett, which established him as one of the first Indian filmmakers to make a mark in the American film industry. Hollywood.
Damon was initially attached to the project but exited due to scheduling commitments. The film eventually starred the late Heath Ledger as well as actors Wes Bentley, Kate Hudson and Djimon Hounsou.
Damon is in India along with filmmaker Christopher Nolan, producer Emma Thomas and actor Tom Holland as part of the global promotional tour for “The Odyssey”.
Mumbai is one of only four cities, alongside London, Paris and New York, hosting an official premiere for the film, marking the first time a Christopher Nolan movie has had an official launch in India.
On Friday, Nolan, Damon, Holland and Thomas attended a fan screening of the film at PVR ICON IMAX: Phoenix Palladium, where they addressed audiences.
Written and directed by Nolan, “The Odyssey” is an adaptation of Homer’s epic poem chronicling the decade-long journey of Odysseus, the legendary King of Ithaca, after the Trojan War.
Damon plays Odysseus, while Holland stars as his son Telemachus. The ensemble cast also includes Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron and Samantha Morton.
