Shillong, May 1: Teachers under the Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (Central Body) and the Meghalaya 4th Teachers Association on Friday felicitated Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in recognition of his government’s rollout of the Structured Pay Framework (SPF), aimed at enhancing financial stability and service security for SSA and 4th teachers in the state.
The programme was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, Tourism Minister Timothy D. Shira, Arts and Culture Minister Shanbor Shullai, Umsning MLA Dr. C. Lyngdoh, and Commissioner and Secretary for Education Vijay Mantri, along with officials from the education department.

Addressing the gathering, Sangma said the introduction of the SPF marked the culmination of a long and difficult process. He acknowledged the hardships and sacrifices made by SSA and 4th teachers over the years and expressed satisfaction at being part of the journey since 2016, when he served as a Member of Parliament.
He described the issue as complex, noting that the framework was achieved through sustained efforts and collective will. The Chief Minister also lauded the teachers’ associations for their perseverance and commitment in pursuing the reform.

The SPF, implemented with effect from April 1, 2026, is expected to ensure improved social and financial security while recognising the contributions of teachers with greater fairness and dignity.
Calling the initiative one of the most satisfying moments of his career, the chief minister said his government remains committed to prioritising education as a key sector for the state’s development. He also urged teachers to keep students at the centre of their work and decisions, emphasising the transformative role of education in Meghalaya’s growth.
