Mines safety week prize distribution ceremony concludes

Shillong, Dec 18: The final day function and prize distribution ceremony of the 22nd North East Metalliferous Mines Safety Week 2025 was held at Lumshnong Village, in East Jaintia Hills recently, marking the successful culmination of a week-long regional safety initiative.

The Mine Safety Week 2025, organised from November 3 to November 9, involved comprehensive inspections and evaluations of participating mines based on prescribed safety norms and best practices.

During the concluding ceremony, prizes were awarded to mines as well as individual workers for their outstanding performance in safety compliance, trade tests, and various competitions conducted during the week.

The programme was presided over by Supriyo Chakraborty, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Eastern Zone, as the chief guest, along with many industry veterans.

The event was attended by several senior officials of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), including Vinodanand Kalundia, Director of Mines Safety, Eastern Zone; B. Dayasagar, Director of Mines Safety, Guwahati Region; Ajaykumar Ramnaresh Yadav, Director of Mines Safety (Mechanical), Eastern Zone; A. Venkata Subbarao, Director of Mines Safety (Electrical), Eastern Zone; B. Venkanna, Deputy Director of Mines Safety, Guwahati Region; G. V. Rangarao, Deputy Director of Mines Safety (Mechanical), Eastern Zone; Keshav Singh Meena, Deputy Director of Mines Safety (Electrical), Eastern Zone; Tapas Kumar Behera, Deputy Director of Mines Safety (Electrical), Eastern Zone; and Abhimanyu Singh Ogra, Deputy Director of Mines Safety, Guwahati Region, among other distinguished guests.

Additionally, representatives from around 22 mechanised mines operating across the states of Meghalaya and Assam were present, reflecting the collective commitment of the regional mining industry towards strengthening safety standards.

Addressing the gathering, senior DGMS officials emphasized that safety is not merely a regulatory requirement but a shared responsibility that ensures the wellbeing of workers and sustainable mining operations.

“We are deeply committed to upholding the highest standards of safety, continuous training, and operational excellence across all our mining activities, ensuring the well-being of our people and the integrity of our operations at every step,” said a Dalmia Cement spokesperson.
