Guwahati, Oct 27: Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankar today emphasized the increasing significance of the North-East in India’s national story, stating, “The North East is now center stage in our national narrative.”
He expressed that the region is experiencing a transformative phase, “Purvodaya,” that many could not have previously imagined.
He highlighted how the North-East, once hindered by challenges in development and connectivity, is now a top priority in India’s agenda for growth.
At the 21st International Conclave of Krishnaguru International Spiritual Youth Society held at the College of Veterinary Science in Guwahati, the Vice-President discussed three guiding principles for driving India’s transformation: spirituality, nationalism, and technological progress. He advised the audience to remain grounded in spirituality, as taught by Krishnaguruji, while embracing modernity and development. “When spirituality, nationalism, and modern technology combine,” he said, “India is destined to achieve the status of a ‘Vishwaguru’—a world leader in economy and influence.”
Praising Krishnaguruji’s teachings, the Vice-President said, “Krishnaguruji embodies divine grace, inspiring devotion through his teachings of love, service, and humanity.” He noted Krishnaguruji’s message of thinking beyond oneself and serving the community and nation. Reflecting on India’s legacy of compassion and spiritual heritage, he added, “Our geography is dotted with centers of spirituality, a testament to our unique dedication to unity and welfare for all.”
The Vice-President further highlighted spirituality’s essential values, such as love, compassion, patience, tolerance, and responsibility, which foster harmony and justice. He reminded the audience that promoting these values creates a foundation for a peaceful world.
He also reflected on India’s enduring resilience in times of crisis, citing moments when spiritual leaders and centers offered relief during the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters. Emphasizing ancient scriptures like the Ramayana, Mahabharata, Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, and Vedas, he underscored their call for actions benefiting both individuals and society.
The Vice-President spoke on India’s foreign policy evolution, mentioning that Prime Minister Modi’s “Look East-Act East” policy enhanced India’s engagement with South-East Asia, bringing new opportunities to the North-East. “The Look East-Act East policy has positioned the North-East as a thriving region of strategic importance,” he said.
He expressed pride in the growing recognition of the North-East’s unique culture and identity. Recently, Assamese was designated a classical language, joining Bengali, Marathi, Pali, and Prakrit. “This recognition allows Assam to showcase its rich cultural heritage,” he said, and acknowledged the region’s natural beauty as a source of inspiration for spirituality and unity.
He shared key statistics illustrating the North-East’s progress, noting that the central government has invested 3.37 lakh crore rupees in infrastructure development over the past decade, with visible results in roads, railways, and airports that enhance connectivity across the region.
Other dignitaries present at the event included Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Governor of Assam; Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam; Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways; Pramod Boro, Chief Executive Member of BTR and other notable figures.
