Over 76,957 electricity poles to be changed
Shillong, Feb 23: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday said disruption in the supply of electricity is due to maintenance work being carried out across the state to replace more than 76,957 electricity poles under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme.
Replying to the debate on the Governor’s Address, the chief minister said, “The power cuts are not scheduled load-shedding… there are rusted poles, more than 1,000 transformers which are of low capacity and very old in nature. There are wires that have been there for the last 30 years.”
Explained that supply must be switched off while poles, wires and transformers are changed, he said, “All these disruptions… are not because of load-shedding but because of the requirement for implementation of the project.”
Sangma added that the department and MeECL will advertise shutdowns in advance and said the drive aims to improve power quality.
