People trust in NPP’s leadership: Shylla

Shillong, May 6: People continue to trust the NPP because of the development seen under Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and the two Deputy Chief Ministers in the past few years, Cabinet Minister and NPP state youth president Wailadmiki Shylla said on Tuesday.

Reacting to the BJP’s performance, Shylla said he would not comment directly as outcomes depend on the public mandate. “I cannot give any comment on that because as you know that in politics it is dependent on the mandate of the people,” he said.

“So I think what I can understand and from what I have seen, I feel that the people are still trust us under the able leadership of our Chief Minister and I think everyone cannot deny the kind of development which is coming in these past few years, under the leadership of our Chief Minister and both the Deputy Chief Ministers,” Shylla said.

He expressed confidence that the NPP would continue to get public support. “So I am fully confident that people will definitely be with us and will give us the opportunity to serve them even in the future,” he added.

On the BJP’s claim that it would lead the government in the state, Shylla said such an outcome would be challenging given Meghalaya’s political landscape.

“I don’t know because we have different perspectives. Definitely for them, they have their own way of looking at it, but according to me I will not say it cannot be possible, but it is challenging,” he said.

He pointed to the BJP’s current strength in the Assembly to make his point. “Especially in a state like Meghalaya where we have seen that even right now, the two members of BJP who are in the Assembly, they won because of their personal capacity,” Shylla said.

“It’s not because of the party because in Meghalaya I have seen that it is not party politics, it is individual politics. So it depends on what candidate they will bring in, so I think that will matter more,” he added.
