Shillong, May 26: A person from Rajasthan has been arrested by Meghalaya police for allegedly impersonating as an IPS officer of Meghalaya cadre on social media to defraud a victim, police said.
The accused, Jahul Ali from Alwar, created a fake social media profile of DIG Vivekanand Singh Rathore and “fraudulently contacted the victim”, Ri Bhoi superintendent of police Giri Prasad said in a statement on Tuesday.
The victim transferred money to him and thus defrauded, the SP said.
He was arrested from Jaipur on May 23 following sustained investigation and technical surveillance with internal sources, he added.
