Rs 50 crore approved for police housing

Shillong, Feb 23: Projects worth about Rs 50 crore have been approved under the police housing scheme with Rs 25 crore already released and work under way at 40 locations, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed the Assembly on Monday.

“The police department has been neglected and we came up with this fund where we are giving untied funds to the SPs that has really helped a lot,” Sangma said, adding that an engineering wing and an SP-led committee were created.

“We will further improve the infrastructure.”

On floods and embankments, he said interventions happen when situations arise but require “not only hundreds but thousands of crores.”

The government, he added, acts to minimise effects and protect affected houses, noting heavier rains and changing weather patterns.
