National Level Tribal Meet of Scouts, Guides, Rovers and Rangers inaugurated in Shillong
Shillong, June 25: Tribal youth must remain rooted in their values and heritage while striving for academic excellence, innovation and leadership, said Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Thursday during the inauguration of the National Level Tribal Meet of Scouts, Guides, Rovers and Rangers at the Meghalaya State Bharat Scouts and Guides Headquarters in Shillong.
Addressing 176 delegates who arrived from Rajasthan, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya and North Frontier Railway Assam, Rymbui praised their discipline and commitment.

The five-day national event, which began Thursday, aims to foster intercultural learning, leadership, teamwork and community service among tribal scouts and guides.
Rymbui used the occasion to underline the role of tribal societies in nation-building. “Tribal communities are custodians of traditions, languages, customs and environmental stewardship. I urge young people to take pride in their identity while seizing opportunities in education, skill development and leadership,” he said.
He urged participants to stay aspirational and make full use of government schemes for tribal welfare and empowerment. At the same time, he stressed the need to safeguard indigenous cultures, languages and ways of life.
“In an increasingly connected world, our tribal youth must hold on to their values and heritage even as they pursue innovation and academic achievement,” Rymbui said.
He asked them to serve as role models in their villages by blending cultural pride with modern aspirations. On national integration, the minister said India draws its strength from diversity.
“Our strength lies in our diversity. Strengthen the bonds of friendship, mutual respect and understanding across regions and cultures, and contribute meaningfully to nation-building,” he told the gathering.
