
Guwahati, April 12: The Sengkur Shadap clan, one of the oldest and most respected Khasi clans with historical roots dating back to 1616 at Mukoi (Savir) in Mynser, West Karbi Anglong, marked a major milestone this week as it celebrated its 25th Silver Jubilee with pride, tradition, and unity.
The two-day celebration, held on April 11 and 12, was organized by the Sengkur Shadap Jubilee Committee under the theme: “Ka Jingiaid Lynti Kaba 25th Snem” (The 25-Year Journey). The event brought together hundreds of clan members across generations and regions, turning Mynser into a vibrant hub of cultural reflection, community bonding, and forward-looking dialogue.
The jubilee was presided over by President Onish Shadap, while Secretary Ulis Shadap delivered the opening address, setting the tone for the commemorative gathering. The celebration was marked by speeches, cultural discussions, community feasts, and traditional presentations that paid homage to the clan’s enduring legacy.

The event was graced by several prominent personalities from within and beyond the clan. Gabriel Shadap, System Engineer from KHADC Shillong, served as the chief guest, delivering an inspiring address on the need for unity, knowledge, and cultural preservation. In a symbolic gesture of solidarity, he also distributed essential items to underprivileged members of the community.
Other key attendees included: Khrawbok Shadap, secretary of the Shillong Unit; Shanbok Shadap, president of Ri-Bhoi District Sengkur Shadap; Habel Muktieh, president of Seng Raid Khyrwang; Pynshngainlang Rattane, president of United Khasi People’s Organisation (UKPO), Karbi Anglong Central Committee; Lyngdoh of Khasi Khyrwang Bius Lyngdoh, and other revered elders and traditional leaders.
Speakers emphasized the importance of education, health, and economic well-being as cornerstones for the clan’s future. Khrawbok Shadap underlined the value of physical and financial wellness, while Shanbok Shadap called for investing in education to empower the next generation.

Representatives from Raid Nongtung Sengkur Shadap highlighted the significance of unity and cultural continuity, urging the community to organise traditional events like Nongtung Khyrwang Labang Nongpyllut to keep ancestral customs alive.
The jubilee served as more than a celebration—it was a platform for reaffirming the values, identity, and collective strength of the Sengkur Shadap. With songs, speeches, blessings, and heartfelt reunions, the event stood as a testament to the clan’s resilience and cultural pride.
As the clan looks ahead to the future, leaders stressed the need for continued collaboration, youth engagement, and preservation of heritage, so the next 25 years are even more meaningful.
