Three murder accused convicted after 28 years

Shillong, Aug 3: In a case of delayed justice, three persons were convicted for the killing of one Just Shadap way back in 1997 in West Jaintia Hills district.

In its verdict, the District and Sessions Court in Jowai convicted Nios Shylla, Leader Syngkon, and Koi Syngkon for culpable homicide not amounting to murder of the person on February 20, 1997.

The court found the accused guilty of assaulting Shadap with firewood, resulting in his death on the same day.

The case was registered following a complaint lodged by the Rangbah Shnong of Tamu village at Saitsama Outpost, alleging that the accused brutally assaulted and killed Just Shadap.

The court, which took 28 years to pronounce its verdict, sentenced each of the convicts to five years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1,000.
