Shillong, April 17: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has raised serious concerns over cross-border infiltration from Bangladesh into Meghalaya, calling it a pressing issue for the police and border security forces.

Speaking after a review meeting with senior police officials in Garo Hills, Tynsong said, “We discussed in detail the issue of Bangladeshi infiltration, which continues to be a major concern for the police department. It is our responsibility to ensure that such incidents do not occur.”

Tynsong lauded the efforts made so far in intercepting illegal entrants, crediting the effective coordination between Meghalaya Police, the Border Security Force (BSF), and Customs officials. “Our police, in close understanding and collaboration with the BSF and Customs, have been successful in stopping infiltration before infiltrators could enter Indian territory,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening inter-agency cooperation. “I have asked the DIG to ensure close coordination with the Central Paramilitary Forces and the Customs officials posted in the border areas,” Tynsong added.

According to the Deputy Chief Minister, increased vigilance and joint action along the Indo-Bangladesh border is crucial to prevent illegal crossings, which pose not only security challenges but also socio-economic implications for the region.

“We will continue to take all necessary steps to prevent infiltration and safeguard our borders,” he affirmed.
