Shillong, Oct 8: NPP state president Prestone Tynsong has totally dismissed senior BJP leader AL Hek’s claim about several NPP MLAs seeking to shift sides to the BJP, asserting that all 33 NPP MLAs are united in the party fold.
“When you ask me a question, ask the reality. Don’t depend on this social media. That is not at all the gospel truth,” Tynsong told reporters on Thursday.
Tynsong said Hek’s remark is personal view and holds no weight.
“That is the view of Bah AL Hek but I don’t think Bah Hek is the state president of NPP. I am the state president of NPP. I think I know better than anybody else,” Tynsong said.
“We are united. All 33 elected MLAs of the NPP are intact. As of now I don’t see any rift at all,” he asserted.
Tynsong said he would have responded had the claim came from the BJP state president.
“I will not comment much about the statement made by AL Hek. Maybe if the state president BJP says something, then I can comment. But Bah Hek, he is the only MLA,” he said.
“So I think you please go and ask from Bah Hek and please go and re-verify from the state president of BJP,” he added.
‘If you claim someone’s wife…’
Joining the bandwagon to rubbish BJP leader AL Hek’s claim about NPP MLAs eyeing BJP to jump the boat, Deputy Chief Minister and NPP national vice president Sniawbhalang Dhar has likened it to an attempted illicit relationship.
“If you forcibly claim, you will be laughed at by the people. For example, if you claim someone’s wife, how would you feel? I don’t want to comment on other parties,” Dhar said on on Thursday while rubbishing Hek’s claim.
NPP remains fully united and such claims will only invite public ridicule, he said.
Asserting that there is no discontent within NPP, he said, “There is no difference because all political parties want to strengthen themselves. To just claim is easy but to take them, they cannot.”
“NPP is a very united party. That claim by Bah Hek that there are some (MLAs), I don’t know. We as NPP with 33 MLAs, we are fully united,” he said.
Hek recently claimed that several NPP legislators, particularly from Garo Hills, were in touch with the BJP and keen to join the party ahead of the 2028 Assembly polls.
