USTM to host AIU East Zone inter-university handball tournament from Feb 10

Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya, Feb 6: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya will host the AIU East Zone Inter University Handball Tournament 2025–26 for men and women from February 10 to 14 at its campus sports complex in Ri-Bhoi district.

Organised under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities, the five-day tournament will bring together leading university handball teams from across the eastern region, making it one of the major inter-university sporting events in the zone.

The inaugural ceremony will be attended by Wailadmiki Shylla, Meghalaya’s sports minister, as the chief guest. His presence is expected to mark the formal opening of the tournament and motivate participating athletes and officials.

According to the organisers, the championship will feature competitive matches involving university teams, coaches and technical officials from multiple institutions, with emphasis on high standards of play and sportsmanship.

USTM said it has put in place comprehensive arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the tournament, including upgraded playing facilities and logistical support for teams and officials. The event is also expected to draw spectators from the university community and neighbouring areas.

The university stated that hosting the east zone tournament reflects its ongoing focus on promoting sports alongside academics and providing opportunities for young athletes to compete at a high level.
