VPP demands release of job reservation policy report

Shillong, Dec 18: The opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) has threatened to resume its agitational programme if the state government fails to release the report of the expert committee reviewing Meghalaya’s job reservation policy.

In an open statement to the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday, VPP President and Nongkrem legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit stated that six months have passed since the report’s submission, yet the government remains reluctant to make it public.

“However the state government seems not to be willing to make it public till today despite repeated reminders from the party,'” he said.

The VPP has warned that it will resume agitations if the government fails to announce the report immediately.

“Therefore in this connection the party would be compelled to resume its agitations if the government fail to announce the report of the expert committee immediately,” Basaiawmoit said.

The expert committee, headed by Justice (Retd) Mool Chand Garg, was constituted in September 2023 to review the 1972 reservation policy. The report was submitted to the government in June 2025, but its release has been delayed, sparking concerns about transparency and fairness in the policy-making process.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had previously stated that the report would be released after cabinet approval, but no specific timeline has been provided.
