CM urges institutions to take up skill training

Shillong, Oct 21: Chief minister Conrad K Sangma has called upon the various institutes and colleges to take advantage of the Meghalaya Skills Programme to impart skill training.

“Mandate of Meghalaya Skills Programme is to provide training and handholding. We encourage institutes and colleges to tie-up with the government and impart skill training,” the chief minister said on Saturday.

Various organisations have already collaborated up with the government for running vocational trainings, he said terming it a win-win situation for the institutions and the government, which has embarked on a mission to empower the state’s youth.

“We should work with a mindset to channelise the productive energy of the youth,” he said while inaugurating a vocational training institute at Synod College, Shillong to mark diamond jubilee celebration of the college.

The chief minister also lauded Synod College for the various initiatives taken by the college in the past decades.

“The college has hosted international seminars, conferences and other activities, and provided suggestions and recommendations to the state on different social issues and concerns,” he said.

He also recalled his father PA Sangma’s association with the college.
