BSF seizes contraband worth over Rs 21 lakh

Shillong, Mar 28: A joint operation was conducted to curb illegal activities along the Indo-Bangla border, resulting in the seizure of contraband items worth Rs 21,74,400 lakh in separate incidents.

In the first case, troops from the 193 Bn BSF collaborated with Custom officials to establish a joint mobile check post near Sohritcham (Ladbakli). The team intercepted a bus traveling from Shillong to Photkroh which was found to be loaded with suspicious goods.

As no individual came forward to claim ownership and since there were no valid documents or bills of the consignment, the goods were confiscated. The seized items were handed over to the Customs Office in Dangar for further investigation and legal action.

In another operation, the BSF rescued 47 cattle near the international borders of SWKH, SGH, and EKH during the early hours of Tuesday. These cattle were intended for smuggling into Bangladesh. The rescued animals were handed over to the police station concerned for further legal action.
