Shillong, Aug 27: Social Welfare minister Paul Lyngdoh stressed the need to ensure equal opportunities for PwDs, with focus on vocational training, accessibility in infrastructure, and financial assistance.
The minister attended the 2nd Purple Fair 2025 held on Wednesday at the U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong where over 687 people, including 325 Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), along with their families, caregivers, NGOs, and officials attended the event.
Speaking as the chief guest, Lyngdoh reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to creating an inclusive Meghalaya.
The event was organized by the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE), Shillong, in collaboration with the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities.
The day-long event featured awareness sessions, exhibitions of assistive devices and vocational products, cultural performances, and inclusive sports activities, all aimed at showcasing the skills, creativity, and resilience of PwDs.
Prisca Pyngrope, Purple Fair Ambassador, inspired participants with her message of empowerment and advocacy for disability rights.
The fair also highlighted the proactive initiatives of CRCSRE Shillong in the areas of training, rehabilitation, healthcare, and accessibility, reaffirming Meghalaya’s vision of dignity and equality for all.
The 2nd Purple Fair 2025 successfully combined policy focus with community participation, strengthening the collective resolve to build a more inclusive society for Persons with Disabilities in Meghalaya.
The programme was attended by Camelia Doreen Lyngwa, Director, Social Welfare Department; L. Kynjing, Commissioner for PwDs; Dalikynti Kharshing, Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills; and Bridget Warshong, Deputy Commissioner for PwDs.
