Dy CM rules out delay in GHADC elections

Shillong, Jan 27: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge District Council Affairs (DCA) Prestone Tynsong has ruled out any delay in holding elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) and assured announcement of the poll schedule soon.

“Once the government takes a decision, you will know,” Tynsng told reporters on Tuesday while replying to query on the declaration of GHADC election.

Regarding speculation about postponing the election, Tynsong said, “The question of postponement doesn’t arise because the term of the GHADC will end on April 18. So, before that, the election process has to be completed.”

Regarding the demand for conducting Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Garo Hills, Tynsong said it falls under the Election Commission’s purview.

“The moment we receive the notification, we have to implement it, and I think that’s a welcoming step,” he added.
