Shillong, March 3: Voice of the People Party spokesperson Dr Batskhem Myrboh on Tuesday accepted his nomination for the Shillong Lok Sabha byelection, saying he was grateful to the party and would uphold its “ideology, discipline, principle and vision for the state” in the contest necessitated by the demise of former MP and founding leader late Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon.
“First of all I would like to express my gratitude to the party for expressing confident in my capability to contest the by‑election which is necessitated by the sudden demise of Shillong MP Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon,” Myrboh told reporters.

“As a loyal and foot soldier of the party…I will do my level best to ensure…the party’s ideology…would be upheld,” he said.
He argued the VPP’s record since 2023 and Syngkon’s performance gave the party an edge.
“Our beloved former MP Dr Ricky AJ Syngkon did his level best and rather he set a high benchmark for any party who comes after…our MDCs also they are very committed also to serving the people.”
Asked about his chances, he said he did not take the vote lightly.
“We don’t take any election lightly. Any election is an election and it has its own dynamics and we have to take it seriously.”
He added that the day would be emotional “i will remember Dr Syngkon, I will definitely remember him,” but insisted people would vote for more than sentiment.
“The people they have also love and affection for the party and also for the future of the state because the vision of the party is for the future and welfare of the people.”
Myrboh concluded, “We are hundred percent confident but we are not over confident,” predicting a “big victory” while acknowledging Syngkon left a void which is necessary to fill.
