Williamnagar, March 5: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday met a delegation of representatives from several civil societies at Circuit House in Williamnagar.
The delegation, comprising of Nokmas and Sordars of Dawa and Nengsang Mahari (clan) from Dawa Gittinggre along with ASPF, AAYF, AHAM, GSU, PGSU and others, submitted a memorandum urging the government to fast-track the construction of the Horticulture College at Dawa Gittinggre.
Speaking to the reporters after the meeting, the vice-president of the Post Graduate Students’ Union and a resident of Dawa Gittinggre, Joshelman D. Sangma stated that the chief minister along with the local MLA Marcuise N. Marak, assured the delegation that the project would be implemented soon and that construction work is expected to begin at the earliest.
The chief minister also informed them that the budget for the Horticulture College has recently been allocated.

Joshelman informed that the people of Dawagre had generously donated land for the proposed college as far back as 2008 in the hope that the institution would soon become a reality.
The union leader expressed confidence that once established, the Horticulture College would not only benefit the people of Dawagre but would also serve students and farmers from across Meghalaya by promoting horticulture education, research, and agricultural development in the state.
Meanwhile, the people of Dawagre, along with the Nokmas and Sordars of Dawa and the Nengsang Mahari clan, expressed their gratitude to the chief minister and the local MLA for assuring them that the issue would be taken up at the earliest.
