Mission Education IV: 680 new school buildings to be constructed in State

Shillong, March 26: Around 680 new school buildings will be constructed across Meghalaya under the phase-IV of Mission Education, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said on Thursday.

Under the scheme, each school is expected to receive approximately Rs 70 lakh, the minister said while inaugurating a new building of Darrang LP School in Amlarem block in West Jaintia Hills district.

The school building was constructed under Mission Education Phase III.

Highlighting development in education infrastructure taken up by the government in the past eight years, Rymbui said several initiatives have been implemented under the Mission Education.

Referring to discussions with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Rymbui said the government had identified four key pillars for rebuilding education – infrastructure, teachers, policy, and students.

He also announced that Amlarem constituency is likely to benefit from 8 to 11 new school buildings under the upcoming phase, which is expected to significantly enhance educational facilities in the area.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, Rymbui said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, substantial investments amounting to crores have been made to strengthen the education sector for future generations.

He also highlighted policy measures such as the introduction of a pay scale policy for Adhoc and SSA teachers to improve their welfare and motivation.

On the occasion, the Minister handed over a computer classroom along with related facilities, funded under SRWP 2025–2026, aimed at promoting digital learning among students.

The Headmaster of Darrang LP School spoke about the history and development of the institution, while the SDSEO emphasised the importance of improving educational infrastructure and academic growth in the area.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the Secretary of the School Managing Committee, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, officials and community members for their continued support towards the advancement of education in the region.
