In a first, dialysis unit available for Nongpoh patients

Bethany Hospital marks a decade of service in district

Shillong, Aug 10: The first dialysis unit in Nongpoh was inaugurated at Bethany Hospital Outreach as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations as the grand event came to its end on Friday.

The inauguration, attended by Health and Family Welfare Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh as the chief guest and Nongpoh MLA, Mayralborn Syiem as the guest of honour, saw the release of a commemorative souvenir and unveiling of the bust of the late founder of the hospital, Dr John L Sailo Ryntathiang.

Ampareen in her keynote address expressed gratitude to the hospital for starting the first dialysis unit in Nongpoh, marking a significant milestone in healthcare accessibility for the region. She also praised the hospital for its provision of quality healthcare to the people of Nongpoh and surrounding communities. She emphasised that the hospital’s core values of ‘Compassion, Care, and Commitment’ were personified by Dr Sailo.

Meanwhile, Mayralborn in his speech said the quality healthcare provided by the hospital to the people of the district, the employment opportunities it creates and the welcoming and hospitable environment fostered by the hospital staff always stood out to him.

Meanwhile, hospital director, Achula D. Sailo, recalled how Bethany Hospital Outreach in Nongpoh was established by her husband over ten years ago. The death of a chowkidar’s wife who succumbed to illness while being transported to Shillong for treatment deeply moved Dr Sailo, she said. This event, coupled with the challenges faced by patients who had to travel long distances to Guwahati for healthcare, fueled Dr Sailo’s determination to provide quality healthcare locally.

The director also highlighted the hospital’s significant progress over the past decade, including the expansion of services in Byrnihat and Umsning. These developments, she emphasized, reflect the hospital’s enduring commitment to addressing the healthcare needs of rural communities.

Following the speeches, Rev Lyndan Syiem, pastor-in-charge of Mawroh Presbyterian Church, Shillong, led the thanksgiving session, expressing gratitude for the hospital’s achievements and seeking blessings for its future endeavors.
