NPP claims surge in leaders joining party in Garo Hills

Shillong, May 20: The National People’s Party (NPP) is witnessing a surge in leaders from other political parties joining the party in Garo Hills, NPP state working president and cabinet minister Marcuise N Marak said on Wednesday.

Referring to such meetings to welcome leaders from other parties, he said, “Yesterday in fact, I was also having a party executive meeting in North Garo Hills district where we are welcoming lots of leaders from other political parties.”

Marak said the district committee has decided to accommodate the new entrants based on their expertise.

“I have requested all block and district leaders and MLAs there that for those leaders who are coming from other political parties, we make a list and try to accommodate them in our party positions somewhere in the district or block level according to their expertise,” he said.

Marak said similar developments were reported from South West Garo Hills.

“The Chief Minister was in South West Garo Hills where he was receiving huge number of leaders and followers and they were joining the NPP.”

“So, we are getting good response in Garo Hills. So many things are happening in Garo Hills,” he said.

The Minister attributed the trend to ongoing development in the region under Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.

“People have seen the kind of developments happening in Garo Hills. People have seen the way chief minister has created opportunities for the people, created educational infrastructure and universities and we are trying to bring up a medical college also.”

“So many things are happening and seeing this, people are joining our National People Party,” Marak added.
