Shillong, June 13: The untimely demise of legendary shooter and coach, Jaspal Rana, has been deeply mourned by the sporting fraternity of Meghalaya.
“It is with profound shock and deep sorrow that we have received the heartbreaking news of the untimely demise of Shri Jaspal Rana…” said John F Kharshiing, working president of the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) in a statement.
Rana, who passed away on the night of June 11 due to cardiac complications, was an Asian Games Gold medalist, Dronacharya awardee, and high-performance coach of the Indian pistol shooting team.
Kharshiing said he expressed the condolence to Rana’s family and his well-wishers on behalf of the MSOA, Shooting Association of Meghalaya and entire sporting fraternity of the state.
Stating that Rana was more than just a champion athlete, he said, “He was an institution in himself. … his transition from champion athlete to world-class coach inspired generations of young shooters across the nation.”
