East Garo Hills launches awareness drive
In East Garo Hills on Tuesday, an awareness campaign was launched urging citizens and community groups to actively participate in the exercise to ensure an accurate and inclusive voters’ list.
A one-day awareness programme on Phase III of the electoral roll revision was organised by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (Election) at the Circuit House in Williamnagar in preparation for the upcoming house-to-house verification of voters.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner R.P. Marak underscored the importance of the revision exercise and appealed to all stakeholders to extend full cooperation for its smooth implementation across the district.
The programme was attended by representatives of NGOs, civil society organisations, self-help groups, educational institutions, mothers’ federations, locality leaders and other community representatives.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Election) Dimserita A. Sangma gave a detailed presentation on the revision process, including the house-to-house enumeration by Booth Level Officers (BLOs), publication of draft electoral rolls, the period for filing claims and objections, and the publication of the final electoral rolls.

She said the Special Intensive Revision aims to update and verify electoral rolls by enrolling new voters, correcting inaccuracies, removing duplicate entries and deleting the names of deceased electors.
Sangma urged stakeholders to cooperate with enumeration officials to ensure that every eligible voter is enrolled and that no deserving elector is left out of the electoral process.
Concluding the programme, Marak called on residents to treat the revision exercise with the seriousness it deserves and assured the public that the process is aimed at ensuring a transparent, accurate and inclusive electoral roll.
“There is no need to fear the process. It is being undertaken to strengthen the integrity of the electoral rolls and ensure that every eligible citizen gets an opportunity to vote,” he said.
