Dy CM urges oppn party to choose dialogue over protests
Shillong, Aug 3: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Monday said the government’s doors are open to all political parties and urged elected leaders not to resort to protest marches.
Reacting to the Voice of the People Party’s proposed march to the Secretariat on August 6, Dhar said dialogue was the preferred route to resolve issues.
The Deputy CM stressed that elected representatives have unrestricted access to the government and asked VPP leaders to submit a memorandum to the chief minister.
“Obviously, if there are any urgent issues from any political party, they have the right to meet the Chief Minister or the government. They are most welcome. If they come and place their agenda or issues, we will discuss. There is no issue,” he told reporters.
“All MLAs and MDCs are people’s leaders. They have the right to meet the Chief Minister and the government nicely, and the door is open for them 24 hours,” Dhar added.
He said the government would welcome the VPP for talks even in a small delegation.
“If anybody comes, we always welcome them. Let the CM handle it. We are open,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dhar questioned the rationale behind calling public protests over issues that can be taken up in meetings.
He further said most of the issues listed by the VPP were already under discussion, and that the government remains committed to resolving them in the interest of the people.
