Woman dies after nurse staff performs surgery in Alwar; hospital sealed

Jaipur, Aug 7: The Rajasthan government has sealed a private hospital in Alwar after an unauthorised person allegedly conducted a delivery that led to the death of a woman, officials said on Friday.

The action was taken against Nishu Hospital located in the Nangla Raisis area after the incident came to light, they said.

According to the officials, on August 4, in the absence of a doctor, a nursing staff member allegedly conducted the delivery of a pregnant woman, identified as Anjum (Pinky), who later died.

Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) Gayatri Rathore said strict action has been initiated and directions have been issued to lodge an FIR against the hospital.

She said that under the provisions of the Clinical Establishments Act, the hospital’s licence has been cancelled and all its activities have been stopped with immediate effect following detection of irregularities.

Action has also been recommended against the hospital operator, Dr Bhuvnesh Kumar Sharma, to the medical council, and against nursing staff member Rafikan Bano to the nursing council, the officials said.

Rathore said prompt and strict action was taken as soon as the incident came to notice.

The principal secretary also reviewed maternal and child health services and cases of maternal mortality through a video conference at the Health Bhawan on Friday.

She directed officials to take strict action in cases of negligence in maternal and child health services and ensure timely and accurate updating of health data of pregnant women.

Rathore also stressed effective monitoring of maternal health services and early identification of high-risk pregnancies to ensure better healthcare delivery, officials added. (PTI)
