Another chapter in student representation: Goa CM lauds ABVP’s sweep in DUSU polls

Panaji, Sep 20 (PTI) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has congratulated the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) candidates for their victory in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, saying it marks another chapter in student representation at the institution.

The ABVP, an affiliate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), on Saturday won three of the four central panel posts of DUSU in the polls that unfolded in the backdrop of a recent Gen Z-led protest and the Satya Niketan building collapse that claimed the lives of five Delhi University students.

The Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) failed to secure any of the four central panel posts, with the ABVP winning the president, secretary, and joint secretary positions.

In a post on X on Saturday, CM Sawant said, “The Youth Has Spoken” and extended his heartiest congratulations to the ABVP winning candidates.

“The results mark another chapter in student representation at Delhi University, with Rashtra Ekata and Chhatra Ekata continuing to feature in the wider discourse of student leadership,” he said.

The BJP on Saturday hailed the “historic” victory of ABVP in the DUSU election, calling it a “tight slap” on the face of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and an outright rejection of his “politics of falsehood.”

The ABVP won three of the four key posts in the DUSU elections, with Yash Dabas elected president, Riya Chhawdi secretary and Lakshya Raj Singh joint secretary. Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen, who was denied an NSUI ticket, won the vice-president’s post.
