Readmittance of Nilamoni Sen Deka recommended to AICC
Guwahati Sept14: The Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has issued show-cause notices to five senior leaders of the party for engaging in alleged anti-party activities during the last Lok Sabha elections.
The leaders who received the notices are: Abdur Rashid Mondol, MLA; Rekibuddin Ahmed, MLA; Bharat Chandra Narah, MLA; Mira Barthakur, president, Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress (APMC); Samsuddin Barlaskar, president, Hailakandi District Congress Committee.
These leaders have been asked to explain their actions that allegedly went against the party’s interests during the elections.
The DAC has recommended the readmittance of Nilomoni Sen Deka, a former minister, who had appeared before the DAC with an undertaking. The recommendation for his readmittance has been forwarded to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) for final approval.
In addition, the DAC will be submitting a status report to the AICC soon, summarizing the findings and actions taken regarding the anti-party activities during the last Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
The newly constituted DAC, chaired by Nripendra Thakuria, with Bobbeeta Sharma as APCC vice-president and Shirazul Hussain Saikia as member-secretary, conducted multiple rounds of discussions, interactions, and hearings. They engaged with grassroots party workers and leaders to address issues related to omissions and commissions of anti-party activities during the elections. This process is part of the party’s efforts to ensure discipline and address any internal issues that may have arisen during the electoral process.
The DAC received a total of 56 complaints, petitions, and allegations from various sources, including Block Congress and District Congress units, individual applicants, and contesting candidates from the last Lok Sabha elections in 2024. The complaints came from multiple districts such as Goalpara, Kamrup (Rural), Hailakandi, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Tinsukia, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, Dhemaji, South Salmara-Mancachar, Hojai, Baksa, Nagaon, Darrang-Udalguri, and Dhubri.
The DAC engaged in consultations with AICC general secretary-in-charge Assam Jitendra Singh and APCC president Bhupen Kumar Borah, who provided full support for conducting a fair and impartial investigation in line with the Indian National Congress Constitution.
In addition, the DAC conducted on-ground verifications in several districts, including South Salmara-Mancachar, Goalpara, and Kamrup (Rural), to understand the real situation and assess the allegations. The investigation aimed to identify party members who were involved in anti-party activities, which are considered breaches of party discipline. The committee noted that actions such as public criticisms of party leadership, policies, and ideologies, particularly through electronic media and social media, harm the party’s image and morale.
After a thorough investigation and careful consideration, the DAC has decided to issue show-cause notices to the following individuals for their breach of party discipline.
