Blueprint for SSA teachers to be submitted in January

Govt not looking at short term solutions: Education minister

Shillong,Dec 12: A blueprint being prepared to resolve the service and salary related issues of Samagra Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers in the state will be submitted to the state government in January 2025.

“A complete blueprint is being prepared by the education department and it will be presented before the state government on January 9 or 10, 2025,” education minister Rakkam A Sangma informed on Wednesday.

Preparation of such a blueprint is a challenging task keeping in view the different types of demands of two major organisations representing SSA teachers in the state.

The Meghalaya SSA Schools’ Association (MSSASA) has been demanding for formulation of a policy to secure the services of over 13,000 SSA teachers while the main demand of All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers’ Association (AMSSASTA) has been enhancement of salary by 100% for which the latter went on strike for several days recently.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to resolving the SSA teachers’ grievances, the education minister said, “The blueprint is being prepared. Of course it is a challenge. However, there is a way when there is a will. So the government is having the will and definitely, to some extent, we will find the way.”

He, however, mentioned about some “technical issues” that need to be resolved by the government in order to resolve the issues.

The government has to take into consideration all possible impacts of any decision going to be taken to in this regard, he said.

“The blueprint may be taken or not, but we are doing our exercise on how to find out the best solution as we are not looking at short term solutions. We are looking at long term solutions to resolve the issues once and for all,” he added.
