BSF shifts pregnant woman to hospital

Shillong, Aug 2: The Border Security Force (BSF) evacuated a woman suffering from severe labour pain from Umkiang, a remote village along Indo-Bangladesh border in East Jaintia Hills district.

The BSF camp at Umkiang, upon receiving a call about the woman’s condition from Dr Evergreen Khgongjoh of PHC Umkiang on Friday around 1 pm, immediately dispatched an ambulance along with a trained nursing assistant to the location.

The 24-year-old woman, Priya Pyrtuh, was shifted to Jowai Civil Hospital where she received timely and necessary medical care, the BSF said.

The village was earlier benefitted through BSF civic action programme as around 400 people from the village underwent medical check-up at a free medical camp held at BOP Umkiang in December 2023.
