Shillong, Apr 22: Glorious tributes were paid to Pope Francis by Catholic faithful in large numbers in churches across Meghalaya.

In Shillong, hundreds gathered the Mary Help of Christians Church at Laitumkhrah to to pay their final respect to Pope Francis, who passed away on Easter Monday (April 21) at the age of 88.

Prayers, tears, and heartfelt tributes marked the Requiem Mass held in honour of the late pontiff.

“He was a beacon of hope and peace. His passing has left a void, not just for Catholics but for the whole world,” said a woman who came to attend the service.

“We must pray that God sends us a good Pope. As Catholic faithful, we have to keep praying,” said another mourner expressing hope for a worthy successor of Pope Francis.

Recalling the Pope’s final message, which emphasised global peace and a ceasefire in war-torn regions, a woman said, “His appeal for peace was so powerful. It’s something I will never forget.”
