Shillong, Feb 18: KHADC chief Winston Tony Lyngdoh on Wednesday tabled a report in the House, seeking to recall the Amendment Bills to the United Khasi-Jaintia Hills Autonomous District (Trading by Non-Tribals) Regulation, 1954, in order to bring a fresh bill.
“I beg leave to report that the Council in Session had passed various Amendment Bills to the United Khasi Jaintia Hills Autonomous District (Trading by Non-Tribals) Regulation, 1954 viz, eventh Amendment Bill on 29.10.2009, Eighth Amendment Bill on 02.03.2011, Ninth Amendment Bill on 01.07.2014 and Tenth Amendment Bill on 26.06.2020,” Lyngdoh said.
He explained that the said Bills were sent to the Governor for assent/approval through the District Council Affairs Department, Government of Meghalaya, but were not assented to due to certain issues requiring re-examination and re-consideration by the Council.
“Therefore, to enable the Executive Committee to examine the matter in depth and to bring a fresh Bill, it is deemed necessary to recall the aforesaid Amendment Bills,” Lyngdoh said, placing the report before the House for consideration.
